Killingly, Conn. - One resident was transported for evaluation following a kitchen fire on Main St in Danielson this morning.
At approximately 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, a 1st alarm assignment was struck for the Danielson Fire Department and mutual aid companies to respond to a reported kitchen fire at 344 Main St.
According to Chief Chuck Kelleher, Danielson Fire Department, crews arrived to find an active fire in the kitchen with smoke pushing from the eaves and gable vents of a multi-family multi-use structure. All residents were self-evacuated allowing the first due crew to focus on fire suppression, immediately deploying a handline off of the attack engine. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the main body of the fire while the second due crew established a water supply between the attack engine and a nearby hydrant.
Crews worked for a little over an hour to overhaul the kitchen and extinguish hot spots where the fire extended into some void spaces in the structure. A small amount of fire also extended to a second-floor bathroom wall but was quickly discovered by firefighters, utilizing a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC), and extinguished.
The fire was held to a single apartment in the structure with all of the other apartments, and businesses, within the structure being undamaged. Two adults and one child were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
One resident was transported to Day Kimball Hospital, with a paramedic onboard, for evaluation of suspected smoke inhalation.
The Killingly Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Agencies that responded, or were dispatched, included: the Danielson Fire Department, South Killingly Fire Department, Atwood Hose Fire Company, Moosup Fire Department, Attawaugan Fire Department, KB Ambulance, and KB Ambulance’s QV Medic.
