Killingly, Conn. - At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, the Attawaugan Fire Department was dispatched for reports of a large outside fire in the area of 638 Chestnut Hill Rd. A minute later a 1st alarm was struck for a reported structure fire.
Crews arrived to find a 20x20 chicken chicken coop engulfed in flames approximately 20 ft from the residence. Firefighters stretched a hose line from East Putnam’s Tanker 179 and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze before it could seriously damage the nearby residence. Within 10 minutes command dismissed units that were not already on the scene. The remaining crews spent approximately an hour and a half overhauling the structure and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries occurred as a result of the fire. It is not currently known how many animals were lost.
The Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
