Putnam Man Arrested in Murder for Hire Scheme
Putnam, Conn. - A 52-year-old Putnam man, residing at 5 Heritage Rd - Americas Best Value Inn Putnam, was arrested by Detectives from the Connecticut State Police(CSP) on Monday, December 4th, 2023, for charges relating to an attempted Murder for Hire.
According to the CSP, on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, a confidential informant entered the Troop D lobby and informed Troopers that his employer had asked him for assistance locating a "hitman" to kill a victim. The suspect attempted to render the victim unable to testify in an ongoing Family Court proceeding.
An extensive investigation was opened by Eastern District Major Crimes (EDMC) detectives. Their findings led to a joint operation between the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) East where an undercover Trooper was put in place as the "hitman".
The suspect was ultimately taken into custody without incident. He is being held on a $5,000,000 bond and is being charged with one count each of Criminal Attempt/ Intimidation Of Witness, Conspiracy To Commit/ Murder, Criminal Attempt/ Murder With Special Circumstance.
