Webster Woman Leads Police on Multi-Town Pursuit Following Failure to Stop in Brimfield
Webster, Mass. - A Webster woman was arrested following a pursuit, spanning four towns, on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, Massachusetts State Police Troopers identified a vehicle traveling on Route 20 in Brimfield that was believed to be operated by a Webster woman with multiple warrants. One of these warrants included dragging an Uxbridge Police Officer with a vehicle in a previous incident.
As troopers attempted to stop the vehicle it appeared to stop prior to fleeing down Route 20 towards Sturbridge. Knowing that the driver may flee, troopers had pre-staged a unit on the Brimfield-Sturbridge border with stop sticks, a tire deflation device.
As the vehicle approached the waiting trooper, stop sticks were deployed, successfully deflating one of the vehicle front tires. In an attempt to avoid the stop sticks, the driver erratically swerved, nearly striking a Trooper.
The State Police continued their pursuit, with the vehicle on three wheels, through Sturbridge and into Southbridge. As the pursuit his Main St the order was given for state police cruisers to terminate. Southbridge Officers continued pursuing the vehicle.
At approximately 8 p.m. the South Worcester County Communications Center (SWCC) alerted Dudley officers of the pursuit prior to it entering the town. Dudley Officers were occupied with their own arrest and requested Webster Officers mutual aid to assist pursuing officers, two officers were able to assist.
A Webster Officer rapidly located the pursuit and took over as the lead vehicle, while the second Webster officer positioned themselves to deploy stop sticks on West Main St. The driver was able to avoid the stop sticks and continued, failing to pull over for police. The driver continued down West Main St, towards Webster, traveling well over the 30-mph speed limit and failing to stop at numerous red lights.
Once the pursuit entered Webster, two additional Webster officers were standing by in order to attempt another stop stick deployment. The driver swerved to avoid the device, striking a vehicle stopped in the roadway and a parked motorcycle on Main St. At this point, she struck stop sticks deployed by another Webster officer, prior to striking another vehicle and coming to a stop in the roadway.
Upon stopping, the driver refused to exit the vehicle and was forcibly removed by officers. To achieve this, officers were forced to break a window and deploy Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray. One officer sustained minor injuries in the removal of the suspect.
The driver was placed into custody and transported to the Webster Police Department where she was held without bail until her arraignment in Dudley District Court on July 12th.
As a result of this incident, the driver was charged with Failing to Stop for a Police Officer, Operating to Endanger, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest. Additional Charges may follow.
In accordance with Quiet Corner Alerts policy, the name and mug shot of the suspect have been withheld.
