Worcester, Mass. - The suspected shooter in the October 28th shooting at Worcester State University has been apprehended in New York.
According to Worcester County District Attorney’s office, the suspected shooter was captured in New York Thursday morning. The 18-year-old suspect has been wanted since Monday for unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault with the intent to murder. The charges stemmed from the fatal double shooting that occurred on the Worcester State University (WSU) campus Sunday morning.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 28th, 2023, the Worcester State Police Department received calls of a fight in progress in a campus parking lot. Upon arrival, units found 2 parties with gunshot wounds. The Worcester Police Department and Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Worcester DA’s office arrived on the scene to assist with scene control and the subsequent investigation.
One of the two individuals, a 19 year old man, succumbed to his injuries. The second individual, a 21-year-old man, underwent surgery at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. None of the involved parties are WSU students.
The investigation into the shootings is still ongoing.
Agencies who worked to locate the suspect include: the Worcester Police Department, Worcester State University Police, Massachusetts State Police, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the U.S. Marshals Service, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
