Putnam, Conn. - A man has passed away after the tractor trailer he was operating rolled over in the high-speed lane of I-395 Northbound early Friday morning.
At approximately 3:51 a.m. on Friday, July 21st, 2023, the East Putnam Fire Department was dispatched to I-395 Northbound at exit 45, Kennedy Drive, for a tractor trailer rollover.
According to East Putnam Fire Department’s Chief Abe Walker, while enroute crews received updates that there was a party entrapped in the vehicle with active fire. On the fire department's arrival, Connecticut State Troopers were already on the scene attempting to keep the fire at bay with fire extinguishers. The fire was rapidly extinguished by a handline.
Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, and State Troopers could be seen working around, and within the cab, for nearly an hour to provide aid and free the victim. Upon extrication, the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
All lanes of I-395 Northbound were shut down for an extended period of time to allow for investigation and cleanup.
The accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
